Outdoor Displays

The Society has added a floor to the outdoor display building and has also constructed a display building to house our vintage Ford pickup. We have also constructed a display building for our blacksmith shop. These buildings were funded by a community matching grant from the State of Alaska. Special thanks to Cindy Allen, Julie Cooper, Ron North, Dean Willis, Bill Ellis and Jim Wilde for their work and contributions on the outdoor display project.

Ferry Names

Alaska’s two new ferrys will be named “Chenega” and “Fairweather”. By law, the state ferries must be named after Alaskan glaciers. The names were chosen in a contest open to Alaskan school clildren in grades two through six, who were required to suggest a name and submit a 250-word essay. Fourth-grader (March, 2002) and Society member, Wesley Tyrrell of Central was one of the two winners, he submitted the name “Fairweather”
